Live Class – Remote Classrooms at Scale
Enabling digital learning during a crisis through centralized, intuitive virtual classrooms.
Project overview
Design and delivery of a centralized digital classroom interface for schools, teachers, and students at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What I worked on:
As a Product Designer, I created the core Live Class interface for both student and teacher views, ensuring smooth access to live sessions.
About Insight Partners
Live Class was an emergency initiative by Conexia to support schools across Brazil during the sudden shift to remote education caused by COVID-19. The platform allowed institutions to maintain structured learning using existing video technology, fully embedded into a centralized digital environment.

Project Kickoff
At the start of the pandemic, schools were abruptly forced to suspend in-person classes. The immediate need was clear: to create a way for teachers to teach and students to attend classes — safely and remotely — without relying on fragmented tools.
We had very limited time. The mission was to design a centralized classroom hub where users could see upcoming classes, join Zoom sessions, track attendance, and access recordings — all from a single, accessible interface.
Discovery & Constraints
With time being the biggest constraint, we interviewed school leaders and teachers to understand their immediate needs. The must-haves were:
- Simple access to class schedules for students
- Seamless Zoom integration without extra configuration
- A teacher view with more options (recording, attendance)
- A lightweight interface that worked on multiple devices
The context called for speed, clarity, and resilience — without compromising usability.

Insights to Direction
We focused on designing two core views:
- Student View: Focused on clarity — a clean, chronological list of classes with direct links to join and view recordings.
- Teacher View: Expanded controls including attendance tracking, session management, and access to past lessons.
We used consistent language, minimal visual noise, and direct actions to support users who were already overwhelmed by the situation.

Feature Design: Central Classroom Interface
I designed a unified classroom hub that served as the digital front door to remote learning.
Highlights included:
- A personalized calendar view showing daily and weekly sessions
- One-click access to Zoom rooms, with status indicators (live, upcoming, recorded)
- Automatic attendance tracking based on login and session presence
- Class recordings organized by date for quick review
Everything was designed to be responsive and accessible, reducing friction across families with varying levels of digital fluency.

Highlights
- Designed and shipped a centralized classroom interface in record time
- Integrated Zoom into a seamless, branded platform experience
- Supported thousands of students and educators across the country
- Enabled digital education continuity during one of the most critical periods in recent history
- High adoption rate across Conexia’s partner schools

Prototype Outcomes
Although time was limited, internal testing and early usage data showed:
- High ease-of-use scores from educators and parents
- Smooth navigation and zero friction on joining live sessions
- Teachers reported reduced time spent giving tech instructions to students
Conclusion
Live Class was one of the fastest, most meaningful projects of my career. Despite the urgency, we delivered a solution that empowered teachers, reassured families, and brought structure back to learning. It was a personal and professional milestone — using design and technology to help education move forward when it was needed most.
